The Pacific Row 2014 Team
Alumni to take on Pacific challenge
Four Exeter graduates are planning to row more than 2,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean to raise money for a children’s charity.
Nick Kempster (Geography 2012), Chris Blacketer (Human Biosciences 2012), Andrew Line (Economics 2012) and Jack Carter (current student) are training ready to take on the waves next summer in the Great Pacific Ocean Race.
The race begins in Monterrey Bay, California and finishes, across the ocean, in Honolulu, Hawaii. To complete their race target of 40 days the team must row in two hour shifts, 24 hours a day.
The four are hoping to raise £150,000 for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, a national charity that provides emotional and practical support for families with a child suffering from a life-threatening or terminal illness.
Crew member Andrew Line said of the challenge “I have no illusions that the preparation, the fundraising, the training will be tough, never mind the actual race, but working to raise as much money for Rainbow Children’s Trust as possible is a fantastic golden carrot.”
