Financial thrillers from global expert
A murky world combining high stakes finance and organised crime has been captured by author and alumnus John Gubert.
John has written a trilogy of financial thrillers where global markets come under attack from financial terrorism by criminal gangs, banks are at risk at of meltdown and money laundering is the norm.
If it sounds not too far removed from the truth that is because John has drawn on his experiences gained during a successful career in finance.
On leaving Exeter (French and German 1968), John worked in the international division of a major UK stockbroking firm before moving to French bank, Credit Lyonnais. From there he moved to Midland Bank (later to become HSBC), as an international executive, before spells in risk management and securities services. He went on to become the Global Head of HSBC Securities Services.
It was during his many business flights around the world that his ideas for his novels took hold and he switched off the in-flight entertainment and began to write.
While he has used his insider knowledge to inform his novels, he is keen to remind people that they are still works of fiction: "The real world isn't like this - at least not yet!" he said.
John has written three books in the series: One Step to Danger, The Financial Terrorist and The Insider.
They are available in paperback and as e-books from UK bookshops and Amazon.
