Alumnus appointed as Chancellor of the University of Mauritius
Congratulations to alumnus Dr Jean Claude Autrey who has been appointed Chancellor of the University of Mauritius.
Having studied a Masters in Plant Pathology in 1974, he earned a PhD in Plant Virology in 1980 and was awarded the DSc Degree in Biological Sciences in 1994 at Exeter.
Jean Claude attributes his passion for education and research, and his long association with the University of Mauritius, to his time at Exeter. ‘I was privileged to meet many outstanding academics like late Mrs. Sheila Robb, my Supervisor and late Prof. John Webster my mentor as well as students at Exeter who have inspired me throughout my career. The friendly ties I developed in Exeter are still well alive today’ he says. ‘Last August I visited the University and was amazed by how it has grown but delighted that the campus had kept its character.’
Jean Claude sees his new role as ‘helping students to find their own way in life’ and we wish him every success.
