Liam and his colleagues at Exeter Pride

Alumnus nominated for top education award

Recent Exeter graduate Liam Taylor (Geography, 2017) has been shortlisted for a British Education Award.

Liam has been shortlisted in the Degree category for his commitment to both his studies and a wide range of extra-curricular activities on campus.

During his time at Exeter, Liam has helped to organise Pride on Campus events and raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues as well as volunteering his time to fundraise for disaster relief. He has also worked with the Students’ Guild to boost small business and encourage spending in the local community rather than large stores and helped with the development of the University’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) - Climate Change: Science and Climate Change: Solutions.

Professor Tim Quine, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) at the University of Exeter said: “Liam is a dedicated and committed student, who naturally encompasses the University of Exeter’s values of collaboration, community, ambition, rigour, impact and challenge. Over the course of his time at the University, Liam made a significant contribution to the University across a number of areas both academically and extra-curricular.

“Liam has supported, championed and led a number of strategically significant projects over the last two years, while at the same time maintaining his extremely high academic achievement on his degree. To achieve a First Class Degree in Physical Geography from a Russell Group University while committing to significant projects with our world-leading academic researchers and widening participation teams is testament to Liam’s dedication, ambition and hard work.”

Liam said: "I am delighted to have been a part of many fantastic opportunities in my time at Exeter. It has been a privilege to be able to develop my own projects alongside academics and University management who respect student-led initiatives. In every part of my Exeter experience there has been a strong community helping me along to achieve. I'll never forget my time at Exeter and will always #BleedGreen!"

The British Education Awards have been established to promote excellence in British education. They recognise the value and importance of education and learning as the foundation to a good quality of life and for the future success of the country.

Liam is one of three graduates nominated in his category. The winners will be announced at ceremony in Manchester in January 2018.
