Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sir Steve Smith, welcomes guests to the event.
Making the Exceptional Happen - Campaign launch event
On 9 February we officially launched our ‘Making the Exceptional Happen’ fundraising Campaign at an event in London, hosted by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Sir Steve Smith.
The event was attended by alumni and supporters who have helped to ensure the Campaign is on target to reach its goals of £60 million and 60,000 volunteering hours by 2020.
Currently we have raised 41% of our financial target and 73% of our volunteering target. Funds raised will support work across the University an enable us to tackle some of the biggest challenges faced around the world.
We were also joined by speakers who have benefited from Exeter’s work including: Amy Ralston, a third year law student who has been supported by the Tony Allen Scholarship Scheme, and Emma Matthews, a mother whose son’s life was saved thanks to diabetes research conducted by Professors Andrew Hattersley and Sian Ellard.
Chancellor Lord Myners closed the event saying: “Isn’t it wonderful that our University, with its researchers in Devon and Cornwall, is having such a profound and positive impact on challenges that are shared globally.
“For every challenge there is a solution and your University is at the heart of those solutions.”
The Campaign focuses on building research power across four main themes: Health, Living Systems, Environment and Sustainability, and Society and Culture. It also aims to support students through additional themes of Tomorrow’s Leaders and Sport.
