The new scholarships will launch in the autumn
Alumnus supports the next generation at Exeter
A new Widening Participation scholarship is to be introduced at the University of Exeter, helping to ensure even more students can benefit from a University education.
Mark Waghorn (Law, 1988), a Partner at Simmons & Simmons LLP in London, has funded two scholarships of £300 per month for 36 months. This ensures two students who may not otherwise be able to attend University, will be supported throughout a three-year undergraduate programme at Exeter.
Mark has remained close to Exeter since his graduation, previously donating to the Alumni Annual Fund and volunteering his time over several years to act as a mentor to current students.
He said: “My time at Exeter inspired me to pursue my career in law. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the University and it was a real privilege to be able to spend three years there. I want to help other young people have the same opportunity that I did.
“I have mentored several students, sharing my experience of the Law profession and have also supported Widening Participation activity through the Alumni Annual Fund. I wanted to take the next step and extend this support and am looking forward to seeing what another generation of Exeter students can achieve.”
The two scholarships are named after Mark’s parents - Brian Waghorn and Julia Davies - and will launch in the autumn.
