Autumn telethon raises more than £135,000
The University of Exeter’s autumn telethon has raised more than £135,000 to support students as part of the Making the Exceptional Happen Campaign.
During October and November, 50 current students spoke to hundreds of alumni, 460 of whom pledged a donation to support Exeter. The amount raised is 20% greater than during the same period in 2017.
David Watson, Head of Supporter Engagement at the University of Exeter, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to all the alumni who have supported us this autumn. Their generosity will have a significant impact on the student experience and ensure we can help even more young people benefit from an Exeter education.”
The money raised helps to provide bursaries and scholarships for students who would otherwise struggle to attend university, and also supports student activities such as sports clubs and societies. In addition, the students working on the telethon benefit from being able to talk to alumni about their careers and Exeter experiences.
Exeter alumni have donated well over £2 million through the telethon since it began in October 2002, helping to transform the lives of the next generation at Exeter. As well as providing philanthropic support, the telethon is also a great way to keep in touch with alumni, share stories of the projects made possible by their generosity and to say thank you for the support.
