Exeter alumni recognised with New Year Honours

Congratulations to the Exeter alumni and Honorary Graduates who were honoured in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours earlier this year.

  • Ms Shirley Collier (French and Italian, 1990) was awarded the MBE for services to Further Education
  • Ms Sarah Cowley (French and Italian, 2003) was awarded the MBE for services to British Nationals Overseas
  • Mr Simon Danciger (Sociology, 1987) was awarded the MBE for services to the community in Barnes, Greater London, particularly during Covid-19
  • Mr Stephen De Silva (Theology 1977) was awarded the MBE for services to Heritage
  • Dr Fiona Jenkins (CPD, 2005) was awarded the MBE for services to Healthcare
  • Mr Ryan Kelley (Mathematics, 1963) was awarded the MBE for services to Social Care in Surrey
  • Dame Lynne Owens (MA Leadership Studies, 2009), CBE, QPM was awarded a Damehood for service to Law Enforcement
  • Mr Christopher Phillips (MA Police Studies, 1996) was awarded the MBE for voluntary service to the Royal Navy
  • Mrs Rosemary Pope (LLB Law, 1979) was awarded the OBE for services to Charitable Fundraising
  • Mr Barnaby Sandow (PGCE, 1997) was awarded the BEM for services to Education
  • Mr Mark Vickers (Bed Hons, 1989) was awarded the MBE for services to Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
  • Mr David Walrond (English BA, 1979 and MA, 1981) was awarded the OBE for services to Further Education in Cornwall

 

In addition the following three Honorary Graduates were also honoured.

  • Sir Richard Atkins, CBE (Hon LLD, 2015) was Knighted for services to Further Education
  • Mr Rob Baxter (Hon LLD, 2017) was awarded the OBE for services to Rugby Union Football
  • Professor Dame Jane Glover, CBE, (Hon DMus, 1986) was awarded a Damehood for services to Music
