Launch of the Race Equity Alumni Advisory Board.
The University of Exeter is launching a new Alumni Board, and would welcome member applications from across the alumni community, and from around the world.
The Race Equity Alumni Advisory Board will support the University to build lifelong relationships with our Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) alumni and provide a voice for BIPOC alumni to share their experience, and provide guidance and support to the University to ensure the continual improvement of the BIPOC student and staff experience. The Race Equity Alumni Advisory Board will also have a critical role in advising the University’s implementation of its equality, diversity and inclusion vision 2019-2025 (Everyone Welcome, One Community, Many Voices), and in particular, advising the University in its ambition to become an anti-racist institution. A full list of Board Aims and Membership Responsibilities are listed in the Terms of Reference which can be found here.
We are looking for applications to join the Board of volunteer members, ensuring it is a diverse group in terms of age, location, background, profession and experience etc. If you would like to apply please email David Watson, Head of Alumni and Supporter Engagement, at d.watson@exeter.ac.uk stating your name and subject of study, and provide brief answers to the following questions – we may then follow up with you for an informal conversation to learn a little more about you and answer any questions you may have about the Board:
- Why would you like to sit on this board at Exeter?
- What do you do in your current role(s) to support racial equity?
- What key changes or initiatives would you like to push for / lead on if you were appointed to the board?
Professor Janice Kay, Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, stated on the launch on the new Alumni Board: “We are deeply grateful for the engagement of our BIPOC staff and student communities in our journey towards anti-racism. Their voices, engagement and commitment has been pivotal to the progress that we have made so far. Through my work with the Provost Commission I know first-hand the positive changes that have been introduced across the University as a result of this engagement. The creation of the Race Equity Alumni Advisory Board will provide an opportunity for the University to engage with our BIPOC alumni community, hear about their experiences and ideas, and support our drive towards race equality at the University of Exeter.”
