More success for our alumni authors including Dr Peter James Dyer (Philosophy PhD, 1991).

September 2022 - Celebrating our Alumni authors

Massive congratulations to our alumni authors who have had their books published.

Take a look at the latest books available from our alumni authors:

Dr Peter James Dyer (Philosophy PhD, 1991) has published After Lockdown - Positive Psychology for More Profit.

The recent pandemic has left in its wake a more fragile and apprehensive business community. The core intention in this book is to provide highly practical advice – a small clear set of proposals - for inexpensive changes to organizational operations based on the new science of Positive Psychology. These changes are shown to be backed up by research findings that demonstrate how each proposed change significantly improves innovation and productivity and so helps boost profit. Business leaders armed in this way with the latest psychological science has to offer can then push on into the future with enhanced confidence and ambition.

Emily Hutchinson (Psychology, 1991) co-authored and has published The Strengths-Based Organization: How to boost inclusivity, wellbeing and performance.

The challenge of how to work in a way that makes people feel included, well and able to perform at their best becomes ever more important, both for individuals and for organizations. This approach is about working with business as usual and experimenting with small changes, which can result in big outcomes. Whether you work for yourself, a small company, or a large corporate organization, the strengths approach can be applied to everything you do.

Philip Hamlyn Williams (Humanities, 2008) has recently published How Britain Shaped the Manufacturing World 1851-1951.

This book seeks to tell the remarkable story of British manufacturing, using the Great Exhibition of 1851 as a prism. Prince Albert and Sir Henry Cole had conceived an idea of bringing together exhibits from manufacturers across the world to show to its many millions of visitors the pre-eminence of the British. 1851 was not the start, but rather a pause for a bask in glory. Phil Hamlyn Williams’s great grandfather exhibited at the Great Exhibition; his grandfather was an inventor and his father spearheaded the mechanisation of the British Army in WW2 and then was a leader in the motor industry.

Dr. Howard Woodhouse (Philosophy, 1968) has recently published Critical Reflections on Teacher Education: Why Future Teachers Need Educational Philosophy.

Howard is Professor Emeritus and Co-Director of the Saskatchewan Process Philosophy Research Unit in the Department of Educational Foundations at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Author of more than 80 book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals, his book, Selling out: Academic freedom and the Corporate Market, was short-listed for a Saskatchewan Book Award in 2009. His latest book Critical Reflections on Teacher Education argues that educational philosophy can improve the quality of teacher education programs in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
