Falmouth Spring Festival 2017 launch

The University of Exeter sponsors Falmouth Spring Festival 2017

The University of Exeter has been confirmed as the title sponsor of the Falmouth Spring Festival 2017.

University staff and student ambassadors joined festival organisers and schoolchildren from Falmouth’s primary schools involved in a giant gardening exercise in advance of the festival, by planting thousands of daffodil, tulip and crocus bulbs at various sites across the town. Each year the scheme is part of the build-up to the Falmouth BID-organised Spring Festival.

The University of Exeter is one of the world’s top 1% of universities and its two Cornwall campuses, in Penryn and Truro, play a key role in that success. It attracts more than £16 million of research income into Cornwall every year and that helps to generate employment and a world focus on Cornwall as a centre for education and research. It also means the University of Exeter can invest in the local community, supporting individuals, schools, clubs and businesses.

Ruth Grimmer, Head of Professional Services at the University of Exeter Penryn Campus, said: “We are really proud to be supporting this annual event, providing both volunteers and, more recently, sponsorship. Falmouth Spring Festival has a strong community ethos and the University of Exeter is committed to working with and supporting the community of which we are part.”

Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID Manager said: “I’m delighted to welcome the University of Exeter as our title sponsor. Having a world-class institute such as Exeter engaged with the festival is terrific news for the town. The Falmouth Spring Festival is a celebration of coast, culture and community and we look forward to staff, university societies and student ambassadors supporting a host of vibrant activities that are planned at numerous venues and locations across our special town.”

The dates for the Falmouth BID-funded and organised Spring Festival are the 30th March to the 17th April 2017. The festival brings an explosion of early colour, life and activity to the town. Paint the Town Yellow Day sees more than 25,000 daffodils being given out to hundreds of businesses by schoolchildren and students of Falmouth; more than 100 volunteers will engage with the Spring Clean Days while the three-day Folk & Cider Fayre will bring great food, more than 50 ciders and top UK folk bands to the town.

Main Falmouth Spring Festival activity dates so far are:
30 March Paint The Town Yellow Day.
31 March & 1 April Spring Clean Days.
8 & 9 April Games & Fitness on the Moor.
15-17 April Folk & Cider Fayre.
