Experts explain the Science of Christmas
The Christmas dash is on: who’s faster - Santa or animals? Why are gifts exchanged at Christmas? How do you sort the naughty from the nice?
Experts from the University of Exeter have answers to these questions and more.
Tonight (Thursday 14 December) scientists from the university’s Penryn Campus will explain in a fun and engaging way the festive holiday mysteries that children would love to uncover.
Held at The Poly in Falmouth from 7pm, the annual Science of Christmas event is a family-friendly evening of brief talks and demonstrations.
The line-up of scientists will include Dr Kimberley Hockings, Lecturer in Biosciences, who will unravel the reasons why we exchange gifts at Christmas.
David Sünderhauf, Postgraduate Research Student in Biosciences, who will reveal how Santa sorts the naughty from the nice.
Professor Brendan Godley, Director of the Centre for Ecology and Conservation, will be compering the event and said: “We would like families to join us for a festive evening where we will be uncovering some of the science behind Christmas phenomena and traditions, without giving away any of the magic.”
Children are encouraged to ask lots of questions and join in the fun by wearing festive clothing or accessories.
This is a free event, but online booking is essential via Eventbrite – tickets must be shown at the door.
