Nine subjects at the University of Exeter have been ranked within the top 10 of the Guardian University Guide 2018.

Top 10 status for Exeter subjects in latest Guardian league table

The University of Exeter’s teaching excellence across a wide range of subjects has been acclaimed in the latest national league table rankings.

Nine subjects have been ranked within the top 10 of the Guardian University Guide 2018, which was published today (May 16).

The University’s Medical School’s Medicine Programme cemented its burgeoning reputation as one of the very best in the country, rising to 5th place nationally and once again retaining its place as best in the South West.

Religious Studies and Theology (4th), Sports Science (5th) and Engineering: Materials and Minerals (5th) also secured positions in the top five of the rankings. Drama (6th), Medical Imaging (6th) Politics (8th), Classics (8th) and Business, Management and Marketing (10th) complete the top 10 entries. Overall, 21 subjects feature in the top 20.

Professor Tim Quine, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) said: “The University’s performance in the latest Guardian League Table confirms our commitment to high-quality education, world-leading research, and outstanding student support.

"Our strong performance across our subjects is not only a testament to the hard-work, enthusiasm and dedication by all of our academic staff and students across the University, but also cements our reputation as a rewarding environment in which students can truly flourish.

"The Medical School continues to go from strength to strength, while subjects such as Sports Science have reinforced their place as being amongst the very best nationwide.”

The Guardian metrics take into account measures including student satisfaction levels with teaching, the course and feedback, staff-student ratio and tariff. It includes a “value added” score, which compares degree results with entry qualifications.

The latest league table also ranks Exeter 13th out of 121 UK Higher Education institutions, and 7th in the Russell Group of leading research intensive universities.
