Public invited to ‘future proof their body’ at immersive VR arts performance

One of the world’s most iconic and historic theatres will play host to an innovative and immersive performance experience, designed to give members of the public the opportunity to explore their body’s potential in the virtual world.

Distinguished dancer and choreographer Joumana Mourad artistic will lead a unique public event at the Minack Theatre, Porthcurno, Cornwall, on November 15-16.

Called Future Proof your Body, the experience performance which is immersive combines virtual reality, sound and mobility invites participants/audiences to explores the body’s full potential through movement and creativity.

Using virtual reality headsets, members of the public will be encouraged to explore the computer-simulated world that intertwines with entrancing and alluring sounds and music, designed to encourage and stimulate movement.

Joumana will also be joined by her dance company IJAD, who will perform their own interpretive dance developed with the use of Virtual reality architecture, while immersed in the VR realm.

The fun and fascinating event are the result of Joumana’s University of Exeter Arts and Culture Commission, which was developed in collaboration with immersive experience designers The workers - a world-renowned creative technology studio - and input from University of Exeter academics.

Joumana, the artistic director of  IJAD Dance Company, explained: “I believe in the inherent potential of combining movement, choreography, science and technology. Together they allow us to further understand the human body and to advance movement techniques, while offering more creativity and innovation on a multitude level.

“There are very few commission opportunities that allow for artists to expose the technique of science and where science is combined with artist practice at a very deep level where both can intertwine, weave, to offer a kaleidoscope of science exploration and infinite creativity.

For this event, we have created a compact VR exploratory space where participants can transform their perception of their body”.

The Future Proof Your Body experience has already enjoyed a successful venture in Exeter, with a two-day event held recently at the University of Exeter’s Roborough Studios, on the Streatham Campus.

This latest event, which is open to anyone aged 13 and over, will see two sessions a day held at the Minack Theatre - from 11am-12.30pm and 1.30-3pm on Friday November 15th and Saturday November 16th.
