This monumental effort by the RAD team has led to them winning Student Fundraising Group of the Year at the National Student Fundraising Awards
RAD smashes new record for fundraising total
The fundraising totals for the 2018/19 academic year for the Cornwall campuses are in and the Raise and Donate society (RAD) has smashed it, raising nearly 90k for charity.
An incredible intake in challenges this year has stemmed an increase in money raised, with roughly 86 participants taking part in a variety of challenges, all for a good cause. Most prominently, Everest Base Camp had 23 participants and held the top spot in fundraising total for Action Against Hunger, as well as the top spot in participation numbers nationwide.
Hitches has also been very successful this year, switching back to Jailbreak for RAD’s second term hitch (last year being Race2Amsterdam). This saw teams travel to places such as Paris, and one team even went all the way to the Canary Islands without spending any travel money; in turn they raised over £1,000 for Samaritans. Using the fundraising from this academic year, RAD has contributed to the development of a new Samaritans call centre, based on campus. With a shift to focus on mental health and wellbeing, this will be a very helpful station for students to seek advice regarding their university experience.
This monumental effort by the RAD team has led to them winning Student Fundraising Group of the Year at the National Student Fundraising Awards, an achievement the society has expressed as being very humbling and exciting. They were also shortlisted at the National Society Awards for the Most Improved Society, beating almost 800 entries from varied societies and student-run clubs nationwide.
Mikki Choy, RAD President: “RAD has grown tremendously this year and to be able to continue fundraising for all of these important causes whilst delivering a RADical experience for students has been incredible.”
