The team presented their redesign of a core undergraduate module to the final national conference
Law and Business module redesign is national example of best practice
The University of Exeter team for the National Learning Design BootCamp 2020 (Dr Steph Comley , Education Adviser TEL, Dr Caroline Keenan, Director of Education Law Cornwall, and Dr Karen Kenny, Academic Developer) presented their redesign of a core undergraduate module to the final national conference last week #ldbootcampuk.
The redesign which blends online and face-to face learning was described as 'brilliant' and 'an example of best practice and at the forefront of work nationally' and the Exeter team as 'inspirational, showing what can be done in blended redesign.' Instead of giving students a term’s worth of time to achieve the broad learning objectives of a module, often through a large amount of passive acquisition of knowledge, the redesign creates clear weekly learning goals which answer the questions ‘what can a student on this module do at the end of this week that they could not do at the beginning?’ and ‘how will they demonstrate their learning of this?’
The tasks and online learning page (ELE) were then re-designed to take students on a clear phased journey through the week with a real focus on reducing student isolation and enabling students to work together to learn more effectively.
The redesigned core module will be delivered by the Law School on the Penryn Campus in September and this new design will be rolled out across all Law modules at Penryn.
