Sixteen subjects are now positioned in the world’s top 100 – with six in the top 50.
Exeter subject success in influential league rankings
The University of Exeter’s subjects from across disciplines have been recognised as being amongst the very best in the world, according to the latest influential global league table.
Sixteen subjects are now positioned in the world’s top 100 – with six in the top 50 – in the latest QS World University Subject Rankings, published on Wednesday March 3rd, 2021.
Building on the success of previous years, Mining Engineering has risen into the top 10, ranked 8th this year, Sports-related subjects (13th) retains its place in the top 20, while Geography rose six places to 15th.
Elsewhere Environmental Sciences (43rd), History (46th) and Geophysics (47th) all feature in the elite Top 50 grouping.
Other notable entries include Archaeology, Performing Arts, English Literature, Classics and Ancient History, Theology, Psychology, Geology, Earth & Marine Sciences, Hospitality & Leisure Management, and Politics & International Studies, which all feature within the global Top 100.
The University also has at least one top 100 subject in each of the ‘Subject Areas’ that map onto the majority of its Colleges - Life and Environmental Sciences; Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences; the Business School; Humanities; and Social Sciences and International Studies.
Professor Mark Goodwin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global), said: “We are delighted to see the progress made in the latest rankings, with 16 of our subjects now placed in the World Top 100. This reflects the world-leading research and outstanding teaching conducted by colleagues across the University.
“We continue to build partnerships with universities across the world, bringing leading researchers together to addresses global challenges and provide inspiring educational opportunities and experiences for our students, equipping them with skills that will be valuable for their future careers."
To compile the rankings, QS analysed almost 14 million papers, producing almost 81 million citations. In total, 1,453 institutions were ranked across the 51 subjects and five subject areas.
