Falmouth Community Youth Football Club hold end of season awards celebration
The Club held the event at Falmouth Rugby Club on Saturday, with ten teams attending to collect their awards, from Under 8s to Under 15s. The Club's president, Arno Canale handed out the awards and trophies.
The University of Exeter provides annual sponsorship to the Club, which provides free community football to children in Falmouth regardless of their age, background or ability. The Club currently has 180 children with 13 teams. Through sponsorship and fundraising they are able to provide free football training every Saturday morning, with an increasing number of coaches available to provide continuity for the children to develop their football skills in a free, safe and fun environment.
Their good work has been acknowledged by Cornwall FA and within the community with various awards. Head Coach Ashley Blakely-May was awarded Community Hero Award 2018, the club was runner up in the FA Grassroots Club of the Year 2019, and this year Chairperson Janine Kennedy was awarded with Grassroots FA Administrator of the year 2020, with Penny Hodgson (Secretary) being runner up.
Janine Kennedy, Chairperson of the Club, said:
“Receiving annual sponsorship from the University of Exeter is an incredible gift and bonus to all our children. It provides every child playing in a team to have a team shirt for all their matches. Every child wears their team shirt with pride as they are representing our club, and playing against teams throughout the county. We are truly grateful for the ongoing support for our club as we continue to grow, develop and strengthen the children from our community in their love of sport and football.”
