Success at Summer Bottle Match
The University of Exeter’s Camborne School of Mines (CSM) have retained the famous varsity bottle at a hugely successful Bottle Match in London, rescheduled from 2021.
The Bottle Match is played between the Camborne School of Mines (CSM) and the Royal School of Mines (RSM), Imperial College London. The weekend of sport ended with Camborne School of Mines retaining bottle bragging rights in a number of games including an incredible 57-7 win in the Rugby.
The CSM sports teams are made up of players from University of Exeter, Penryn Campus and Falmouth University. This year they had the opportunity to play the Bottle March twice with a Summer 2021 Bottle Match, rescheduled due to Covid-19, taking place in London on the weekend of 11 June with the generous support of the CSM Trust.
The Bottle Match started as a rugby union match played between the Camborne School of Mines and the Royal School of Mines. Their first recorded game took place on 16 December 1902, making it the second oldest rugby varsity match in the world.
Since then, the School’s sporting interests have diversified with other clubs joining the match weekend including: tennis, cricket, badminton, lacrosse, hockey, netball and football. The weekend was hugely successful for CSM with six out of the eight sports winning their matches.
Prof. David Hosken, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, Cornwall said
“It is always great to see our sports teams do well and this is a great result for CSM rugby and sport in Penryn. Congratulations to the team and we thank the CSM Trust for their additional support."
