RAW Emerging Arts Platform
RAW returns with fresh talent from Drama students and graduates
The RAW Emerging Arts Platform will showcase some of the most exciting performances in the UK from Drama students and graduates, at the Exeter Northcott Theatre, from 11 to 13 June 2015.
Supported by the University of Exeter's Annual Fund, the RAW Platform enables final year students and alumni from the Drama department to showcase their work at the Exeter Northcott Theatre and network with industry professionals. The event was originally created in June 2013 in response to student requests for an opportunity to invite future employers and reviewers to their work. The RAW Platform offers the opportunity to catch performers and companies in their infancy, and witness new and inspiring work from young talent.
Divided into two programmes, Raw Programme 1 consists of four performances: What Did You Expect, a one-woman show on dating, relationships, and everyday sexism; No Filter, a sketch show exploring how women view and project sexuality; We Had a Black Dog, a physical theatre piece on dealing with depression; and Twinkle Toes, another one-woman show in which the protagonist is trapped in a videotape of 90s stage school nostalgia.
Raw Programme 2 features three performances: A(l)one Together, a physical piece about human relationships in a technological age; Scatter, a show which explores relationships through movement and personal stories; and Error 404, a play which takes place in a dystopian world.
Dr Kara Reilly, Senior Lecturer at Exeter University said, “The University of Exeter’s Drama alumni create cutting-edge theatre companies: Punchdrunk and Forced Entertainment, to name two, are key companies in British experimental theatre. In other words, Exeter Drama means innovation. In order to nurture that innovation, the RAW platform provides a professional environment for cultivating artists. It invites final year students to showcase new performance in front of a panel of producers, dramaturgs and directors who make a selection. These pieces are carefully developed with an eye to production. Our goal is to nurture RAW talent. We are staging innovations in tomorrow’s theatre today.”
Exeter's Drama Department is an internationally-renowned centre for practice, research and teaching. They are currently 1st in The Complete University Guide 2016, and 3rd in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015.
