Exeter Law School and Graduate School of Education success at the Teaching Awards 2017
The University of Exeter’s best lecturers were recognised by students at the Teaching Awards 2017 on 2 May, and two academic staff in the College of Social Sciences and International Studies were recognised for their contribution to their students’ experience.
Dr Richard Bowyer from the Exeter Law School won Best Undergraduate Supervisor, and Dr Annabel Watson from the Graduate School of Education won Most Supportive Member of Staff.
Annabel says of her nomination: “It was a delight and an honour to win the award for Most Supportive Staff Member this year. I know that all my colleagues put students at the heart of what they do, and we recognise that completing a PGCE takes a huge amount of grit and resilience. It’s rewarding to know that our students recognise all we do to support them through the challenges they face.”
Richard says of his nomination: “'I was surprised and delighted to receive the award for best undergraduate supervisor. Developing scholarly relationships with students is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my job, and it brings me such joy to see our students develop into independent and critical researchers. I would like to thank the students who nominated me, and the Guild and FXU for organising the awards.”
Run collaboratively by the University of Exeter Students’ Guild and the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union (FXU); the Students' Guild Teaching Awards were introduced in 2012 to recognise the outstanding dedication and commitment of University staff. They were created to acknowledge staff, who not only provide outstanding academic experiences, but who support their students' wider development.
Karen Ball, College of Social Sciences and International Studies Registrar said: “the Teaching Awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the education experience of our students here at Exeter; especially as the event itself is organised by the Students’ Guild and FXU, and voted for by students. They highlight the wonderful work our academics are doing and the positive impact it is having on our students.”
