University of South Florida doctoral students visit the Graduate School of Education
Seven doctoral students and Professor Phyllis Jones from the University of South Florida visited the Graduate School of Education (GSE) from 29 June to 4 July 2017.
The University of South Florida students are all studying some aspect of special educational needs/inclusion, and their stay included a variety of activities such as visits to local schools and a number of sessions in the GSE at the University’s St Luke’s Campus.
During their visit they met with staff from the GSE’s Centre for Research in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, discussing teacher education and schooling in special education and inclusion.
They also met with current GSE Research and MA Education: Special Educational Needs students who are aligned with the Centre for Research in SEND, some of whom contributed to a number of the sessions and the conference organised as part of the the visit.
Associate Professor Dr Hazel Lawson said of the visit: “This study abroad visit was initiated by my research colleague, Professor Phyllis Jones, to give her doctoral students the opportunity to learn about the English education system in relation to SEN, and to make contacts with our doctoral students and staff in the SEN field. It was a really great opportunity for us to all come together to discuss and share our research, as well as learn about differences in practice between our two countries. It was a really great experience for all staff and students involved.”
