Engineering expert secures prestigious RAEng Industrial Fellowship
An Engineering expert from the University of Exeter has been awarded a prestigious Fellowship to help pioneer better and more reliable flight control systems for unmanned aerial vehicles.
Dr Haim Alwi, a Senior Lecturer at Exeter, has been awarded a RAEng Industrial Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering – one of only nine researchers to receive the award nationwide.
In collaboration with Prismatic Ltd, Dr Alwi will help develop an efficient and reliable flight control system for high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles.
The research will help to address flight control challenges such as ensuring low power consumption and efficient functioning in extreme conditions.
Dr Alwi said: “I feel very privileged and honoured to have been awarded with this prestigious fellowship. This fellowship is a great opportunity for me to collaborate with Prismatic Ltd in an exciting real-life challenge, with direct impact to the aerospace industry.”
The RAEng Industrial Fellowships are intended to strengthen the links between universities and industry through the development of new collaborative partnerships.
The awardees gain first-hand experience of working in an industrial environment, including knowledge of current industry practices, helping them to improve the industrial relevance of their research and teaching.
Over the past five years the RAEng Industrial Fellowships scheme has supported 47 researchers to complete placements with 44 different industrial partners, covering a wide variety of engineering disciplines.
