Dr Beduschi presented her research findings at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights

The event was organised by the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Speakers were Dr Beduschi (University of Exeter), Vincent Graf (ICRC) and Dr Carmela Trancoso ( École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). The Panel was chaired and moderated by Prof Robin Geiss (University of Glasgow).

Dr Beduschi evaluated the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), digital identity and big data technologies on international migration management. Migration management is understood as the different strategies, policies, processes, and procedures negotiated and adopted by relevant actors at the international level to provide a framework to manage international migratory flows. It is expected that AI and related technologies will increasingly shape the way in which these actors operate in the field. This is not without risks. As these technologies are data-driven in nature, they present important challenges for the protection of privacy and data protection rights. Non-discrimination and due process are also important considerations. Building on her research, Dr Beduschi discussed potential ways forward to conciliate innovation and protection of individuals' human rights in the humanitarian context.
