Dr Bowyer and Dr Travis attend Critical Legal Conference
Taking place from 4th-6th September, the conference was held at the University of Sussex.
The theme of the conference was on 'Power, Capital, Chaos,' with much discussion on austerity, the financial crisis, privatisation, security and responsibility, class war and gender domination. The CLC is in its 30th year, attracting around 200 delegates from across the world. Richard Bowyer's paper asked whether the 'father' in the Freudian myth caused the financial crisis, and if so how we might forget him. Mitchell Travis delivered a ground-breaking paper on 'bodily integrity and legal personhood,' looking at artificial constructions of body and gender in law.
The CLC is a community of legal scholars working across disciplines and methodologies. It has no institutional or organisational existence, and yet each year an ever-increasing number of delegates attend. Recent conferences have been held in Belfast, Stockholm, Utrecht and Aberystwyth.
