Dr Michael Addo addresses the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva

As chairperson of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, Mr Michael Addo presented its main report and five addendum reports to the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He highlighted some key findings from the Working Group's activities to promote implementation of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, including from its country visits to the USA and Ghana in 2013 and its ongoing work to promote State national action plans as a vehicle to implement the Guiding Principles.

Dr Addo also discussed some recent ways in which the Guiding Principles are being applied by all stakeholders and he made some recommendations to States, business enterprises and civil society on how to maintain momentum on the business and human rights agenda. Finally, he addressed the initiative being considered during the 26th session of the Human Rights Council for a legally-binding instrument for transnational corporations.
