Eminent judge shares experience of long legal career with students

Eminent judge Elizabeth Butler-Sloss shared fascinating insights into her long legal career and current work debating Brexit in the House of Lords during a visit to the University of Exeter.

Lady Butler-Sloss met with law students and took part in a question and answer session during the event earlier this month.

The former President of the High Court Family Division was a judge for more than 30 years.

Lady Butler-Sloss spoke about the different ways women had played a significant role in politics, higher education, law and the armed forces. She also described her own career as a barrister, district judge, High Court judge, Appeal Court judge and first female President of the High Court Family Division.

Students also heard about the work of Lady Butler-Sloss in the House of Lords, which has been currently debating the legislation which will lead to the UK leaving the European Union.
