Exeter reaches semis at Insurance Law Moot in London

Jia Hao Kwek and James Dunster, both final year undergraduate law students, reached the semi-final of the 2nd Insurance Law Moot 2016 held in London on 6-7 March 2016.

The moot was organized by the University of Southampton and hosted by both Clyde and Co LLP and 7 King’s Bench Walk

Team Exeter competed against King’s College London and the University of Southampton in the general rounds, before meeting the University of Law in the semi-final of the competition. This was the Law School’s first participation in this moot. The team was coached by Dr Kyriaki Noussia and Dr Meixian Song

Upon returning to Exeter, Jia Hao commented that he was motivated by the opportunity to learn and gain a practical perspective of insurance law. “I hope that the practical application of theoretical concepts and fundamental legal principles in mooting will enhance my appreciation of the law,” he added. James said he aspires to be a barrister. He added that he sees mooting in external competitions as “a great opportunity to get the necessary exposure in advocacy and court etiquette”.

The Law School’s mooting programme is directed by Dr Kubo Mačák and run jointly with the Bracton Law Society mistresses of the moot Meghan Bryson and Eleanor Sharrock.
