Humanities disciplines bolster success in Times and Sunday Times League Table
This year the University has moved up the national rankings to 7th overall, with the good news extending across the Humanities disciplines as Archaeology, Classics and Ancient History, History, Iberian Languages (Spanish), Italian and Russian all moving up in their respective subject rankings from last year.
The College of Humanities sees top five UK rankings for seven of its subjects: Classics and Ancient History, Drama, English, History, Italian, Russian and Film Studies. Iberian Languages has seen the biggest movement in the league table, moving from 14th to 7th, whilst Italian has also progressed from 10th to 4th position.
Andrew Thorpe, Dean of the College of Humanities comments, “We are delighted to hear the news that the College of Humanities has performed so well across the board in our academic disciplines. Since the Times and Sunday Times league tables were amalgamated for the first time last year, we are pleased to see that our disciplines have been recognised for their outstanding student-centred teaching and learning and world-leading research.”
The list below gives the rankings for all Humanities subjects:
Archaeology - 6th
Classics and Ancient History – 3rd
Drama – 3rd
English - 4th
French - 8th
Film Studies (Communication and Media Studies category) – 2nd
German – 7th
History - 5th
Iberian Languages (Spanish) - 7th
Italian - 4th
Russian - 4th
Theology and Religion – 6th
