Exeter Humanities subjects ranked amongst very best in the world
The annual QS World University Rankings published today (Wednesday 8 March) recognise Humanities at the University of Exeter as being amongst the very best in the world, ranking us within the top 100 across the globe (‘Arts and Humanities’ category).
At a subject level within Humanities, both Theology and Religion (placed 24th) and English Language and Literature (placed 47th) have made significant strides up the rankings to join the elite Top 50 world grouping. Other notable entries include Archaeology, History and Performing Arts (Drama), which all feature within the global Top 100.
Professor Andrew Thorpe, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean in the College of Humanities said: “These are very strong results indeed, and show the continuing and, indeed, increasing excellence of the Humanities at Exeter. They say everything about our superb, dedicated staff and our brilliant and committed students. The support of the University’s management has also been crucial in this success. I am confident that with that continued support, we will continue to produce excellent outcomes like these.”
Across the University as a whole, 12 subjects are now positioned in the world’s top 100, with seven in the top 50. Exeter now features amongst the world's elite institutions in 29 of the 42 subjects featured in the QS World University Rankings.
To compile the rankings, QS evaluated 4,438 universities, qualified 3,098 and ranked 1117 institutions in total. More than 127 million citations attributions were analysed and the provision of more than 18,900 programmes was verified.
