£2.5 million investment in 35 new PhD studentships

The University of Exeter is investing £2. 5 million in preparing the next generation of researchers to tackle some of the biggest global issues of the 21st century. 

The University’s College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (EMPS) is funding up to 35 full-time PhD studentships across several of its departments. 

The studentships, which are available for UK-based students, are available within the  Computer ScienceEngineeringMathematics, Camborne School of Mines and  Physics departments. 

The College is committed to undertaking research that will help to tackle some of the biggest problems of the 21st century: modelling climate change, sustainable urban water supply, malaria diagnosis, new optical imaging techniques to treat brain disease and bomb-proof materials.  

Much of the research is interdisciplinary, with academics across the College collaborating to explore topics in more depth.
