University of Exeter’s inaugural Technical Services conference is a great success
On the 13th July, technical staff from all over the University gathered for our first ever technical services conference. This was designed with a particular focus on staff development and offered short training sessions in everything from wellbeing to research sustainability.
Our technical staff are the backbone of the award winning research and teaching we do at Exeter, and this conference aimed to provide a forum for development and networking with other colleagues across all three campuses.
The conference was tailored specifically at our technical colleagues covering the three STEMM colleges and over 100 delegates attended, making it a great success. University based speakers included Linda Peka, Karen Gallagher, John Malloch, Dr Stewart Barr and Gail Reeves enabling us to give perspective from professional services, technical services and an academic viewpoint. Exhibitors included Unite, IST, HEaTED and Exeter College.
As well as input from members of staff based here at Exeter, we also welcomed colleagues from the Institute of Science and Technology who delivered a session focussing on the technician’s career journey and options– from registration right through to the prestigious Chartered Scientist award.
Following the success of this initial conference, we hope to make this a yearly event and look forward to the second technical services conference in 2016.
