The University's Medicine Programme is now officially registered with the GMC

Medical School wins General Medical Council accreditation

The Medical School passed its “health check” from the General Medical Council (GMC) with flying colours, when it officially registered the undergraduate Medicine programme.

The registration process takes five years to complete – the length of a Medicine degree. The official registration comes as Exeter’s first intake of students are set to graduate in July 2018.

The Medical School was particularly commended on a number of points, including student satisfaction with the programme, opportunities for students to engage with research, transparency and openness to feedback. Students told the GMC that they felt well prepared for the next stage in their careers.

Professor Clive Ballard, Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter Medical School, said: “I’m delighted that the Medical School has been accredited by the GMC, and received such positive comments, particularly around our student support and relationships. The registration process is understandably rigorous, and I’d like to thank all our staff and students who have been involved. It’s a real milestone, and recognition of our outstanding teaching and culture at Exeter.”
