Medical Sciences student wins prestigious Quintiles prize

A Medical Sciences student has won a prestigious award from Quintiles (now IQVIA) for her achievements on her Professional Training Year (PTY) placement.

Lauren Davis, a final year student, was awarded the 2016/2017 Quintiles PTY Prize to celebrate her achievements on her placement last year.

Lauren said: “I’m really grateful to receive this award! I’ve heard a lot about the hard work my cohort put in, and the amazing science projects everyone was involved in, so I am really blown away to have been awarded the prize.”

Lauren’s placement was in the immuno-inflammation group at GlaxoSmithKline, where she was part of a team looking at epigenetic regulation of dendritic cell activity, a type of cell involved in our immune response. Epigenetics is the study of biological mechanisms that switch our genes on and off.

The prize is awarded to a student who has achieved the highest 1st class classification across their marks associated with the PTY, and who has demonstrated exemplary personal and professional behaviours while on placement.

Director of the Medical Sciences programme Professor Reza Zamani said: “I’m extremely pleased to have Lauren in our programme. She has consistently demonstrated professional conduct and we’re all proud of her and this achievement. This is a well-deserved prize.”

Professor Clive Ballard, Dean of the Medical School, said: “Congratulations to Lauren on this fantastic achievement, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication she has put into her studies. I’d also like to thank Quintiles for their generosity in sponsoring this prize.”
