The refurbishment was a student-led project

New Medicine student common room opened

A new common room for Medicine students has been opened at the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building.

Students and staff attended an opening ceremony on Thursday 19th April to see the new room, which boasts new furniture, better access, lighting and table football. The refurbishment comes following student feedback and was a student-led project.

Rachel Burn, Director of College Operations at the Medical School, said: “We’re delighted to launch this new common room, which has been designed in partnership with students. We think it’s a real improvement to the space and we hope it gets plenty of good use, especially the table football!”

Cam Boyle, a Medicine student representative, said: “Thank you to the Medical School for its support in updating our common room. It will hopefully create a hub for the students in the RILD building, providing a social and relaxing space for students on clinical placements. Special thanks to Rachel Burn and Vicki McKenna for all their hard work helping me with the process. I hope everyone enjoys the new space and uses it to its full potential.”

Further developments are also planned, including charging lockers for iPads, which will be installed shortly.
