High quality genomics Masters now available online

Health professionals across the world can now register for the first certified online-only genomics programme in which students do not need to visit the university.

The new Master’s level Genomic Medicine programme at the University of Exeter enables participants to study flexibly around work commitments. It will be taught by world-leading academics whose research is transforming understanding and patient care. The programme will focus on how to integrate genomics to deliver meaningful benefits for patients. It will upskill health professionals with the latest knowledge in rapidly-evolving areas including genome sequencing, bioinformatics, cancer genomics and ethical issues .

The online programme, which starts in January 2020, has been adapted from the university’s successful and well-established MSc in Genomic Medicine, developed by Health Education England’s Genomic Education Programme and initially designed to support the roll-out of the ambitious 100,000 Genomes Project. It also offers the flexibility to combine modules from the existing MSc with this fully online programme.

Programme Director Dr Anna Murray said: “We’re thrilled to extend our outstanding teaching in genomics worldwide through this innovative online-only model. It’s really exciting, as it means any health professional in any part of the world will be able to build their learning around their working lives. From the fundamentals of genomics through to applied applications such as the genomics of cancer, the programme will be taught by active researchers who are transforming understanding in this swiftly evolving field, to benefit patient care.”
