Staff and Clinical Partners Celebrated at Cross College Staff Aureus Awards
Staff from across the College of Medicine and Health have been recognised for their achievements, successes and student support at the College Aureus Awards 2020.
Now in their seventh year, the awards celebrate the inspiring academic staff, departments and practices who have made a real impact on students.
The awards are nominated and voted for by students, and cover academics teaching across all our educational programmes. The student award ceremony has been postponed, but planning is underway to run an online event in the new year.
Clive Ballard, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean, said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many colleagues being recognised for their work once again. In what has undoubtedly been an incredibly challenging year, our staff’s dedication and passion to their students has shone through.
When it comes to delivering lectures, placements and tutoring, all of our colleagues have had to adapt, and each has gone above and beyond for their students, some of the nominations were truly inspiring.”
A selection of some of the moving tributes from students who made nominations include;
BMBS Inspirational Teacher Pre Clinical Martin Murphy
“…a natural teacher. What I find most inspiring about his teaching, is his practical approach to medicine. Dr Murphy teaches us how a physician would deal with a new patient with an unknown complaint. This practical, investigative style reminds me why I want to be a doctor”
BMBS Supporting Hand Clinical Anne Davidson
“A PDG tutor who genuinely cares about all the students in her group”
Medical Imaging Educational Inspirer Motivator Clare Thorn
“Her genuine care about us as students and belief in us really comes across in everything she does. She is always happy to help and takes the time with every student to explain things individually in a way we understand. She guides us through when we are stuck or frustrated, and encourages when we want to explore things further. I know she made a massive difference to our university experiences."
BMBS Educational Inspirer Clinical Asim Yousuf
“Very clear and confident teacher, he is one of the best teacher’s we’ve ever had at the medical school. Allows us to ask questions and doesn’t make us feel stupid if we get an answer wrong.”
Medical Imaging Inspirational Teacher Martin Benwell
“Martin is an immensely knowledgeable, personable, and kind lecturer who never fails to make the content interesting and relevant. His humour keeps a smile on my face even through long and complex topics and he is keen to help and mentor outside scheduled teaching time too!"
