Culture Secretary holds personal Question Time session with students
The Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport and Exeter graduate, The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, returned to campus to discuss the top political issues with current students.
The Scottish Referendum, economic recovery and how to engage young people in politics were among the questions raised by students in an event organised by the Exeter University Conservative Association.
Sajid (Economics & Politics 1991) told the 150-strong audience about his time at Exeter, including attending lectures in the same venue and making many life-long friends at Freshers’ Fair, which is taking place at the University this week.
“It is great to be back at Exeter. It is such a lovely feeling to come onto the campus and see the University once again. It is a special place and always will be,” he said.
“You are all lucky to be at such a great University, you have made a great decision to come here. Within days of arriving I knew I had made the right choice, and I am sure it will help lead you all to great things in the future.”
During the event he encouraged students to get involved with politics in the run up to the 2015 General Election.
Sajid made the visit as part of a two-day visit to constituencies in the South-West region and was joined on the panel by prospective Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Exeter, Dom Morris. The event was Chaired by Professor Andrew Massey, Head of Politics at the University of Exeter.
