Cystic Fibrosis Trust strategic research centre (SRC) project
Dr Sarah Denford has recently been appointed as a Research Fellow to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust strategic research centre (SRC) project led by Craig Williams and Alan Barker. Sarah will join us on October 1st and is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School.
Nationwide survey on overtraining in youth runners
Rob Mann, currently a PhD student in CHERC, is leading a nationwide survey on overtraining in youth runners in collaboration with England Athletics. This work forms part of his SWDTC ESRC funded research.
Publications
Zoe Saynor having recently defended her PhD has had a further two publications, one in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and a commentary piece in Respiration.
University of Exeter Image of Research Competition
Lucy Gowing’s entry into the University's Image of Research Competition showing an ultrasound image of human heart beating at 180 bpm during exercise, came Highly Commended and will be on semi-permanent display in the Research Commons on Streatham Campus.
Grant success
Gavin Buckingham (PI) with Sam Vine and Mark Wilson (Co.Is) have been successful with a follow-up 50,000 USD research grant from Intuitive Surgical to explore the influence of different observational learning strategies on the acquisition of basic robotic surgery skills.
Congratulations to Tim Etheridge who has been awarded a Dunhill Medical Trust grant, project title ‘Does NAD+ precursor supplementation rejuvenate skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and physical capacity in ageing humans?’ for £74k in collaboration with Phil Atherton and Ken Smith from Nottingham University.
