The inaugural poster conference in 2017 was a huge success.

Students prepare for poster conference

One Hundred and Seventy final year Sports and Health Sciences students are currently preparing for a poster conference where they will be presenting their dissertation research to discipline staff and fellow students.

Lecturer Gavin Buckingham said, “This poster conference gives us the opportunity to showcase the exciting research which is being undertaking by Sport and Health Sciences at Exeter, with topics ranging from Biomechanics to Physiology to Psychology in a range of sporting and health-related contexts.”

Participation in the conference, which takes place on Thursday the 24th of May, is a requirement for final year students on all Sports and Health Sciences BSc. programmes and contributes 20% to their overall dissertation grade. Individuals are assessed on poster design, a 5 minute presentation of their poster and their ability to answer questions about their research.

Following the poster sessions, Professor Andrew Jones with give a presentation entitled: Breaking 2: lessons learnt in the attempt to run a sub-2 hour marathon.

This is the second event of its kind for the discipline and follows on from its hugely successful first year in 2017. “The whole day was brilliant and everyone we have spoken to enjoyed it immensely and the quality of people's posters seemed excellent,” said one student, “the event at the end was also really popular and was clearly well turned out.”

Alumni are very welcome to attend the event which is taking place in The Forum on Streatham campus from 1-4pm and then afterwards for prosecco and cupcakes to celebrate the achievements of our soon-to-be graduating students.
