£1.5 Million AHRC Grant award for “D4D project”

An Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Large Grant - £1.5million (fEC) has been awarded to a project involving Exeter researcher Martin Levinson. The project title is ‘Disability and Community: Dis/engagement, dis/enfranchisement, dis/parity and dissent’ - aka the ‘D4D project’.

It will involve the universities of Exeter, Bristol, London, Manchester Metropolitan, Liverpool Hope and Bristol Robotics Laboratory based at UWE. Also involved are several community partners, including Accentuate, Screen South, Disability Arts Online, DadaFest, the New Vic Theatre in Stoke, Misfits and Graeae Theatre in Stoke, along with campaign organisations, grassroots groups, charities and other stakeholders. Other organisations  involved include: Action on Disability and Work and Designability, stroke support groups.

This project will work across the spectrum of disability, working closely with communities and organisations, and it will seek to enhance agency and challenge discriminatory and excluding practices. Through its work-streams, the project will seek to inform policy and practice, and alongside our participants, the research team will aim to challenge current perceptions of disability and to introduce new discourses in the field.
