Brian Rappert co-convenes International Experts Meeting on Police uses of Lethal Force
Professor Brian Rappert co-convened an International Experts Meeting on policing and lethal force, held in the Netherlands on 22-23 September 2017.
Professor Brian Rappert, together with Dr Stephen Skinner (Law, University of Exeter), Anneke Osse (independent policing consultant) and Professor Otto Adang (Netherlands Police Academy), chaired and participated in a two-day discussion about ways of recording, evaluating and comparing information about deaths following police uses of force around the world. The meeting involved academics, members of police oversight bodies and lawyers from several countries, including representatives from the UK Independent Police Complaints Commission, the Jamaican Independent Commission of Investigations, the Kenyan Independent Police Oversight Authority, the International Commission of Jurists (Bangkok) and the Human Rights Data Analysis Group (San Francisco), as well as the Omega Research Foundation and universities in South Africa, Mexico and Brazil. The meeting was the first stage in a planned collaborative project.
