UK and Ireland Patent Network virtual seminar series launched

Dr Naomi Hawkins and Dr Karen Walsh (Exeter University), together with Dr Aisling McMahon (Maynooth University), co-founders of the UK and Ireland Patent Scholars Network, have recently launched an online seminar series for the network.

This seminar series offers a monthly forum to discuss research in progress from leading patent scholars based in the UK and Ireland. The seminar series kicked off on 27th May 2020 with a seminar by Dr John Liddicoat (Cambridge University) on the topic of “Has the EU incentive for drug repositioning been effective?'. This was followed by a seminar delivered by Dr Cliona Kelly on 25th June on “Ethics, Responsible Innovation, and Patents”. The seminar series will continue over the summer months providing fruitful and lively discussions of contemporary patent law developments in Europe and internationally. The online seminar series continues discussions from the successful in person inaugural Patent Scholars Network workshops held at the University of Exeter in April 2019, and Maynooth University in June 2019. The network has since grown to over thirty members of patent academics and practitioners, and the organisers are planning subsequent in person events for 2021 in Maynooth and Exeter Universities.
