What does group-based creative practice do for wellbeing? New AHRC project is starting soon.
"Groups, Clubs, and Scenes: Informal Creative Practices in Japan", led by Dr Jennifer Coates (University of Sheffield) and our own Dr Iza Kavedzija, has been awarded an AHRC Network Grant. The project will bring together a network of scholars to study how informal gatherings and creative group-based practices contribute to senses of well-being.
As well as developing the first wide-ranging study of non-professional arts groups in Japan, the group's work will have relevance for contemporary social issues including isolation, the disappearance of regular and well-compensated work, and how creative activities can improve our environments and lived experiences.
