Anna Stevens, our 1000th volunteer.
1000 alumni volunteer for Exeter this year!
More than 1000 alumni have volunteered with the University of Exeter in this academic year 2016/17 - the first time this milestone has ever been achieved!
Our community of volunteers is incredibly valuable to the University as they help support the staff, students and alumni of the University of Exeter. These volunteers make a huge difference in a number of ways: helping us enhance the student experience and improve career prospects, bringing industry expertise and insights to the curriculum, supporting the alumni community, and providing valuable strategic advice and guidance to University staff.
Anna Stevens (English, 2005), who has donated her time as part of the eXepert programme and also as a career mentor, was the 1000th person to volunteer for Exeter in 2016/2017, taking us over this tremendous milestone.
She said: “I really enjoy volunteering as I have received great inspiration and encouragement from my mentors in the past and it's super to give this back to other people. I really like the fact that the University matches mentors and mentees' profiles so carefully, as I feel I can really add value to students who are studying the same discipline I studied and who are interested in the same career as me.
“It's great seeing students' develop and do well! I'm also really impressed by the quality of students and how well informed they are - sometimes they ask quite probing questions, which helps me reflect on what I'm doing as well.”
Emma McFadyen, Head of Volunteering at the University of Exeter said: "We are very lucky to have such a wonderful volunteer community who donate their time to help, not just students, but across the University. It's amazing to have reached the 1000 milestone - we are incredibly grateful to each and every one of our volunteers, we couldn't do what we do without their support."
