Canadian students will have the opportunity to study at the University of Exeter Business School
New scholarships help top Canadian students visit Exeter
Students from Canada are being given the opportunity to study at the University of Exeter Business School, thanks to a new scholarship programme set-up by an Exeter alumnus.
Michael Jones (Economics, 1974) has founded the ‘Haventree Bank Scholarship Fund’, which will support students who couldn’t otherwise afford to study abroad, to spend a term or a full year at Exeter.
Michael completed his undergraduate degree at Exeter before leaving to further his studies and embark on a career in financial services in Canada.
Michael said: “I had a wonderful time at Exeter and the education I received helped lay the foundation for my postgraduate studies and my career in banking and finance. I want to give something back to the institution that opened doors for me, and to ensure others have the chance to study overseas and gain global experience.”
The first ‘Haventree Bank Scholars’ will be arriving at Exeter this year. Kaitlyn Carney is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and has joined classes at the University of Exeter Business School for the first term. More scholars will be heading to Exeter in January 2019 and staying until the summer.
Kaitlyn said: “I am excited to come to Exeter, not only to study in a different environment, but also to experience the culture, learn from other international students and expand my global perspective. I am incredibly grateful to Michael for this opportunity as I could not have afforded to undertake an exchange otherwise.”
The first students supported by the fund are from Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, a university that has built a strong partnership with the University of Exeter Business School in recent years. Students from both universities participate in exchange programmes that allow them to experience life in another country while continuing to study at a top university.
