Dr David Johnston

'Drones revolutionising conservation' talk at Penryn

This keynote was part of a trio of lectures for World’s Oceans Day (in addition to Dr Ruth Thurstan and Dr Sarah Nelms from UoE).

Attendance was an enthusiastic 180 and the talks were especially well received. Dr Johnston impressed with his phenomenal insights and beautiful footage of whales and explained how his work tracking marine mammals helps us understand their underwater lives.

The video contains phenomenal drone footage of whales, polar landscapes and grey seals and has been viewed over 60,000 times on the @ExeterMarine Facebook page. It can also be viewed on the University of Exeter Youtube channel.

The possibilities of joint Duke-Exeter collaboration are extensive, and will be further facilitated when Dr Johnston joins the University of Exeter in September on sabbatical.
