Belief in Marriage: The evidence for reforming weddings law

Co-authored with Rajnaara C Akhtar and Sharon Blake, Rebecca Probert’s new book Belief in Marriage: The evidence for reforming weddings law was published by Bristol University Press in 2023. It draws on the authors’ empirical research project, conducted with funding from the Nuffield Foundation, examining non-legally binding wedding ceremonies. Belief in Marriage sets these findings in context, providing an historical perspective to show how the law evolves with a particular type of wedding ceremony in mind and how the resulting legal framework makes it easier for some to marry in accordance with their beliefs than others.
