Regulating English Midwives

On 28 October 2020 Dr Sarah Fox of the University of Manchester delivered a fascinating talk to colleagues in the Centre and the Law School on the topic of ‘Regulating English Midwives, c.1500 to 1902’. Her talk – delivered by Zoom – explored how midwives were depicted and the various ways in which they were regulated before the passage of the Midwives Act 1902.
