£3 million EPSRC Grant for Improved Urban Flood Resilience
Professors David Butler and Zoran Kapelan have been successful in winning an EPSRC research grant entitled "Urban Flood Resilience in an Uncertain Future".
This is a £3 million multi-institution, multi-disciplinary consortium project led by the University of Nottingham. The overall aim of the project is to demonstrate how resilience to floods can be achieved using integrated systems of Blue-Green and Grey assets, no matter how climate changes in future, assuring continuous, long term service delivery. The Exeter team will work on developing the related general flexible design and adaptation decision pathways for a range of future flood resilience solutions with particular focus on the rainwater harvesting technology. The new methods will be tested and validated on the case studies of Ebbsfleet and Newcastle. The project is supported by a number of partners including Environment Agency, Arup, Royal Haskoning DHV, SWECO, Public Health England, Atkins, UKWIR, RTPI, Infrastructure NI, HR Wallingford, Northumbrian Water, Water Industry Forum and SNIFFER.
